Regular Sambhar Masala from Tamil Nadu

Sambhar Masala is a unique blend of spices which are dry roasted and then grounded to form a fine powder. This spice powder can be added to lentil based dal with vegetables to make authentic Sambhar. Each household has their own variation!


  1. Coriander seeds - 1 cup
  2. Chana dal - 3/4 cup
  3. Methi seeds - 1/8 cup
  4. Dried Red chilli - 1/2 cup


  1. Dry roast all the ingredients separately, once cool add to a mixie with haldi powder and grind them to a fine powder.
  2. To make in bulk, the ingredients can be sun dried and powdered at a local grinder shop.
