Moong Dal (Yellow Dal)

A simple and light on the stomach, Moong dal is mainly served with steamed or jeera rice. Moong dal is low in calories and high in protein and hence is a healthy dal to be included in a daily diet.


  1. Moong Dal- 250g
  2. Turmeric- 1/4th spoon
  3. Onions- 2 medium
  4. Salt- to taste (½ spoon)
  5. Onions- 2
  6. Salt- to taste (½ spoon)
  7. Water- 1 kg

Ingredients for Temper/Tadka

  1. Cumin seeds- ½ spoon
  2. Red chilly powder- 1/4th spoon
  3. Hing- optional


  1. Wash the dal and soak it for an hour or directly put it on heat.
  2. Add turmeric, chopped onions, 1 tbsp oil and salt to the soaked dal.
  3. Boil the dal till it is purified.

For temper/ tadka

  1. Heat the oil in a frying pan.
  2. Add to it cumin seeds, red chilly powder and hing.
  3. Wait till the spices leave their oil- the temper is prepared.
  4. Mix the dal with the temper, and give it one boil.
  5. The Dal is ready to be served!!
