Moong Dal (Yellow Dal)

A simple and light on the stomach, Moong dal is mainly served with steamed or jeera rice. Moong dal is low in calories and high in protein and hence is a healthy dal to be included in a daily diet.
Ingredients
- Moong Dal- 250g
- Turmeric- 1/4th spoon
- Onions- 2 medium
- Salt- to taste (½ spoon)

- Water- 1 kg
Ingredients for Temper/Tadka
- Cumin seeds- ½ spoon
- Red chilly powder- 1/4th spoon
- Hing- optional
Procedure
- Wash the dal and soak it for an hour or directly put it on heat.
- Add turmeric, chopped onions, 1 tbsp oil and salt to the soaked dal.
- Boil the dal till it is purified.
For temper/ tadka
- Heat the oil in a frying pan.
- Add to it cumin seeds, red chilly powder and hing.
- Wait till the spices leave their oil- the temper is prepared.
- Mix the dal with the temper, and give it one boil. The Dal is ready to be served!!
