Masoor Dhuli Dal (Pink Dal)

This light Masoor Dal is best served with some steamed basmati rice, pickle and papad and a comforting Indian meal is ready. It is a good accompaniment with vegetable or cucumber raita/yogurt and a vegetable salad.
Ingredients
- Dal- 250 g
- Onion- 2 medium
- Tomato- 2 medium
- Turmeric- 1/4th spoon
- Salt- to taste
- Oil- 1 spoon
- Water- 1kg
Ingredients for Temper/ tadka
- Garlic- 3-4 cloves
- Green Chillies- long cut
- Red chilly powder- 1/4th spoon
- Onion (optional)- 1
- Cumin- 1/4th spoon
- Oil- 1 serving spoon
Procedure
- Wash and soak the dal overnight.
- Boil it for 15-20 mins (maximum ½ hour) with all the chopped ingredients and masalas.
- Prepare the temper/ tadka.
- Heat oil in a big pan.
- Add to it cumin, onion and garlic and green chillies.
- Once the ingredients give out oil, add the masalas to the temper mix.
- Mix the temper with the dal, and give it one final boil. The Dal is ready to be served.
