Desi Log Desi Dog
WHAT is the problem?
We want people to think of adopting desi dogs (Indian dogs, mostly stray, commonly refered to as 'street dogs") as an option when they want to get a dog. Apart from of trying to get people to see how adopting desi dogs is the compassionate thing to do (awareness), we are trying to make desi dogs permeate the popular culture (culture jamming).
WHY should we care?
Buying a pedigree dog not only takes away a home for an abandoned or stray dog, it fuels the horrific puppy mill industry. To push the right decision - adopting Desi Dogs - we have coined the phrase "Desi Log Desi Dog". In short, you should care about this issue if you want save dogs from suffering in streets and in breeding kennels. If you are a proponent of "Adopt, don't shop", then you'll feel right at home here.
HOW can we fix it?
We want "Desi Log Desi Dog" to be as popular as "Thanda yaani Coca Cola", but without the billion dollar budget. We want it to be on people's minds when they get a dog. We want anyone who considers themselves Desi to choose a Desi dog. Since most of us have such short attention spans, it's only when someone encounters this image multiple times, it will make them feel it's everywhere! We are broke. We can't advertise on metro stations, magazines, TV and radio. So we will start with walls - offline and online.

This is part our Desi Log Desi Dog initiative. An effort to promote adoption of stray dogs in India.
Street Art for Street Dogs.
In India, while dogs are dying on street, majority of people insist on buying a dog from a breeder. Not only did making this art engage close to a hundred people in a matter of hours sensitivizing them to this issue, but this picture on a real wall will continue to inspire for months to come. It will make its way to Facebook walls when people take and post selfies.
"Desi Log Desi Dog" literally translates to "Local people Local dog", which is what we are using to promote people to adopt, and not shop for a dog. Afterall, you can't buy a friend!
Self propogating street art for street dogs.
Our old graffiti in McLeodGanj (Himachal Pradesh) had gotten really nasty, and needed a makeover. We decided to make it a more prominent selfie spot this time :) With a couple of artists, a puppy in tow, a 8 year old puppy nanny and friends helping out with crowd control and food supply, we were able to pull this off in 6 hours :) Every one from cops to local shopkeepers to people passing by were so helpful! Doing good feels great :D
